Review Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium

Hi everyone, this is my first post in this blog.
I'd like to review a film which title is Mr Magorium's Wonder Emporium.
Actually this is an old one, but I think this film is very wonderful and unfortunately people in Indonesia know little about.

This film portrays a magical toy store owned by Mr Magorium(Dustin Hoffman). He has run the business for 243 years. He has an assistant, Molly Mahoney(Natalie Portman), a used-to-be genius piano player who lost all the fame she has got during her childhood.
Mr Magorium feels that he is about to die, because he is wearing his last shoes. I find this ridiculous at first because Mr Magorium says that he loves the kind of shoes he wears, and he has bought several pairs for all his lifetime, and he has wore the last shoes he bought. He wants Molly to take over the business because he believes that the people who work in his store also share his belief in magic. Because of that, he hires an accountant(Henry Weston)-who is later called the mutant- who is at the top of his business ladder. But the mutant doesn't believe in magic.
Molly tries to refuse to be given over the store because she thinks that Mr Magorium is the only magic the store owned. The store itself shows its grief by turning its wall into gray in colour. But finally she accepts the truth that Mr Magorium is gonna leave forever. Mr Magorium also gives her a magical cube, the recipe to win the toy store's heart.
At first, Molly doesn't know what to do to win the store's heart. She finally just gives up trying to make the cube to show her any magic. She continues her life as an ordinary person, but at the time when she wants to sell the store, the mutant hinders her of doing so. And the magic reveals itself at the very moment the buyer comes to have a look at the store.
As other children stories, this film has a happy ending. The mutant finally believes in magic when he himself sees a flying magic cube. Eric Applebaum -a kid working in the store, who has never succeed in making friends- makes friends. Molly Mahoney runs the store with as much magic as she can make, and in addition, she finishes her first concerto she has never finished before.

All stories, even the ones we love, must eventually come to an end and when they do, it's only an opportunity for another story to begin. -- Eric Applebaum

  4. Harry,

In this context an "emporium" is a type of store. Usually this word refers to a store that sells medicine.
