In this country, the child will be hit in his bottom, but it's just a superstition. But now, that way still used just for kidding. Or even the child will be hit more and more because they believe the child will grow in good way and they will get their future husband / wife. The old tradition came from this country was the Happy Birthday song. It had been written by 2 girls in 1893 and it was translated into so many languages.

In the United States, we usually have a birthday party. Friends and family come over for dinner or we go to a restaurant. We always have a birthday cake with candles. If you are turning 16, you get 16 candles for example. Right before you blow out your candles, you make a silent wish.
